Open Question: Leaving a dog home alone?

I would really like to know why people have such a problem with dogs being left home alone. I have heard so many people saying if you cannot be home with your dog every day then you shouldn’t have one or you should bring the dog to doggie day care or get a dog sitter. To me this is completely ridiculous and I don’t understand the logic behind it. Why are you considered a bad owner just because during the day when you work you leave you dog at home alone. Times have changed and very few people have the luxury of staying home with their dog all day. I personally leave my dog home alone 3 to 4 days a week ranging from 3 hours to 8 hours and my dog couldn’t be happier. She gets near constant attention when I am home with her and when I have to go out she simply goes about her day playing with her toys and sleeping. When I return she is very excited to see me because yes she did miss me and I know that. That doesn’t mean she always wants my attention. There are many times when I am sitting on the floor or playing fetch with her and she decides she would rather chew on her bone or play with her rope instead. So I ask you what’s your opinion on leaving dogs home alone? If your against it tell me why.
