I have noticed that many of the kids that are almost 16 in my school claim that when they reach 16 they can break curfew whenever they want, leave home whenever they want, go and do whatever they want, etc. without consequences from their parents. I’ve heard them talk about how strict their house rules are (right…) and how they can’t wait to just say “No” and not obey. I was never informed of these privileges when I was 16, not that I would have abused them or anything, it just seems like a fishy claim to me.

Also, couldn’t the parents just change the locks if they break curfew or cut them off from their internet and other luxuries? I know in my area of Canada you can legally kick someone out at 16, so I don’t see breaking curfew as a good idea.

Any information is appreciated, thanks.
By “without consequence from their parents”, I don’t mean that they are given more freedoms, I mean they are allowed to go against their parents will legally.
