I’m 20 years old and I moved away from home to go University. I have a job and I also get an allowance from the Government (because of this, I can’t work anymore hours than I currently do). My job and allowance aren’t enough to cover my rent and power and food and medication.

I’m getting by, but I am having to dip into my savings/emergency funds.

If I ask my parents for a “loan” I probably wont be able to pay it back until after I graduate (2.5 years time).

I need to money for things like food, power, medication, textbooks etc. It’s not like I’m going shopping for new clothes or to spend on luxury items.

My parents are doing fine financially.

I feel a bit guilty and I really wanted to try and get through University on my own, but it’s proving a bit too much.
Queen Kwa.. If I did this then a. I would also lose my scholarship which only covers my course costs, but I can only get the scholarship if I’m eligible for the government allowance.

I worked all holidays, it’s still not enough to cover it. I also did summer school.

I’m a residential assistant at a University Dorm/Accommodation so I can’t move out or get a cheaper place. What I get paid for my job covers MOST of my accommodation costs, but then I’m left with a little bit to cover everything else.

I also have numerous medical conditions and I have to see a specialist often. I don’t have medical insurance and it costs me $200-$500 (NZD) per time (insurance wouldn’t cover it even if I had it).

My courses all change textbooks each year and last years ones don’t cover material.

I’ve applied for hardship funds to cover my next specialist appointment, so I’ve kind of covered most avenues.

It’s just thinks like dentist appointments as well..
