The phone is a premium phone (£200) to replace her current one which suffers a poor signal in our neighbourhood. We are comparatively fortunate in this world, and want for little. However 2009 cost us a small fortune in medical care and currently we agreed not to buy gifts for each other at Christmas and the same for birthdays. Against our agreement I chose to buy the phone as a surprise. My wife likes the fact the phone now works from home, but sees it as basic tool she should simply have vs a privileged or luxury product worthy of receiving as a gift.

Am I irrational thinking my wife is unappreciative?

I appreciate the answers will be subjective and opinion. Please could you add to your answers your gender, age and relationship status to help weight the collated opinion.
