Hi:

I am 21-year-old Chinese woman. I was born and raised in China. I came to the USA when I was 17. I’m going to talk about my childhood in an effort to dispel the myth that China favors boys over girls. I will split it into 3 parts.

You see, in China, as in most of the world, male figures of authority treat girls better* than boys.

*Better = more compassion, more sympathy, more respect, more gentleness, more easiness, more empathy, more cleanliness, more protection, more luxury, more personal space, more privacy, more security, more freedom, etc.

In China, as in most parts of the world, girls are allowed to mistreat boys but boys dare not mistreat girls. If a boy mistreats a girl, the men will severely condemn him even if the girl instigated the situation.

In China, as in most parts of the world, there is a myth that girls are better-behaved and weaker than boys. This is so wrong. The average pre-adolescent girl is no more innocent, weak, better-haved, sensitive, delicate or vulnerable than the average pre-adolescent boy.

Part I.

At the age of 10, I was in 5th grade. In my school, all the teachers were male and male teachers treat girls better than boys.

At the age of 10, my friends [consisting solely of girls my age] would cruelly-exploit this sexism against boys of our age. We would attack boys.

We would slap, punch, hit, and push boys around just for fun, because we knew we would get away with it. All teacher were male, so they would support us girls and blame the boys.

We would invade boys’ personal spaces by smelling them. We would also rest on boys by putting our heads on boys shoulders. We would irritate boys by continuously tapping them on the shoudlers.

We would spit and blew mucus from our noses into boys’ food during lunch. Also, silverwear was provided for girls at lunch. Boys, however, had to eat with their hands. Girls would spit into boys’ hands as the boys tried to eat. Us girls would also blew mucus out of our noses into boys’ hands as they tried to eat their food.

We would walk up closely behind boys and spit on their hair and the backs of their necks. We would also blow mucus from our noses onto their hair and the backs of their necks. We would then smell the backs of their necks and notice a foul odor from the boys’ necks and scalps. We would then cruelly-tease the boys about how they smelled bad. I will explain the other reasons why boys smelled bad next.

There was physical education in our school. The coaches were male. The coaches never made girls work, but they would force boys to run like crazy until the boys were drowning in stinky sweat. The girls’ locker room had showers, they boys’ locker room didn’t. So boys smelled bad. To add insult to injury, there was no restroom for boy students. For adults there was restrooms for both men and women. But for kids, only girls were allowed to use the restroom. Boys had to go either go in their pants or hold it and if a boy went in his pants, the male adults would make him rub any feces all over his body. But it doesn’t end there. The girls had free laundries on campus, girls could wash their clothes whenver they wanted to. Boys had to wait until they went home to wash their clothes. Girls were allowed to enter boys’ locker rooms buy boys were not allowed to enter girls’ locker rooms.

Us girls didn’t have any body odor except for bad breath. Here is why. We never brushed our tongues. We kept our tongues dirty so that we could spit the foul-smelling slime [that develops overnight] from the backs of our tongues onto the boys’ hair and the backs of boys’ necks. We would then smell boy’s hair and the backs of boys’ necks and tease them about how they stink. However, both boys and girls had shiny, clean, white teeth, and clean gumlines. Both would brush their teeth in a hygenic manner.

Boys smelled terrible because of the rough physical activity [causing sweating] and the unavailabity of showers, restrooms, and school laundaries.

Girls didn’t smell bad at all except for the morning breath emanating from the backs of their tongues and, possibly, the foul smell of their nasal mucus which they would expel onto boys.

Us girls were very cruel, sadistic, and cold-hearted to the boys simply because we knew we would get away with it. We did all that we did because we knew we wouldn’t face any negative consequences.

If any boy dared to try to defend himself against us, the male adults along with our protective fathers and big brothers would beat the boy to a pulp. This once happens and lead to the death of a boy. No one was charged with the murder because our fathers and any big brothers we had, claimed that the boy tried to molest us. So the killing was viewed as a defense, not offense.

Another boy’s death was a result of suicide. He simply couldn’t take being bullied by us.
